What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer position at Doctors Hospital of Laredo?
The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is responsible for providing leadership in planning, directing, coordinating, providing and improving health care services consistent with hospital policies, objectives and standards for quality nursing care. Participates in the development of new educational and research programs for expansion of nursing and patient care services. Identifies and leads strategies to improve and sustain patient experience scores. Under general direction of the CNO, the ACNO will be assigned direct hospital nursing activities in accordance with defined hospital policies and objectives. In the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer, the ACNO represents the Chief Nursing Officer and assumes responsibility for the entire scope of the Chief Nursing Officer’s responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Facilitates and mentors nursing leaders in preparation and submission of budget reports and requisitions as defined by the Administrative Team.
- Collaboratively develops plans to ensure service line programs operate within stated budget guidelines as measured by the specific unit of service, with the goal of exceeding budget projections.
- Effectively controls department expenses and prepares for fluctuations and unexpected costs. Identifies cost reduction opportunities on a regular basis, and facilitates implementation when necessary.
- Participates in the selection of vendors for needed services not otherwise prescribed; anticipates and budgets capital equipment following the policy while seeking to identify alternatives to capital purchasing.
- Performs general supervisory and managerial functions at the direction of the CNO, which include staffing, performance assessment, employee development, employee discipline and employee communications and relations.
- Utilizes performance indicators to monitor department performance and operational goals.
- Monitors and assists with adjusting FTE levels to achieve budgeted staffing based on volumes, organizational goals, accepted staffing models within the industry, and patient care needs defined by law, physician orders and / or a standardized nursing workload measurement system.
- Collaborates with nursing leaders to develop, monitor, and adjust FTE levels to meet the recruiting and professional development goals for nursing staff
- Provides a means of technical, educational & coordinating support to assist in effective, timely performance improvement (PI) activities & / or implementation of clinical practice guidelines.
- Assists with orientation, appraisal, counseling, disciplining & professional development of nursing personnel.
- Promotes effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, families & vendors.
- Communicates appropriate information from data sources to other departments or committees, under the direction of Senior Management.
- Coordinates with CNO for attendance at all medical department & administrative meetings.
