Paralegal/Medical Records Specialist
Position Purpose:
Dodd DelCollo is an innovative, technology-enabled law firm with a proven record of success. As our personal injury insurance defense practice grows, we are seeking a qualified paralegal/medical records specialist (we especially welcome applicants with a nursing background) to review and analyze medical records. This is a full-time, work from home position operating in a paperless environment. All necessary equipment to perform this function will be provided (with the exception of a high-speed internet connection, which the candidate must provide).
Paralegal Roles & Responsibilities:
· Proactively monitors status of pending cases and communicates with attorneys as to case status and suggested actions to move cases forward to conclusion
· Drafts, reviews and edits legal documents (pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, responses to discovery, etc.) and correspondence
· Reviews and analyzes information, including documents provided by clients, client representatives, other parties and their counsel, and medical providers
· Inputs information regarding parties, case status and assigned tasks into case management software
Medical Records Specialist Responsabilities:
Reviews and analyzes documents, including medical records, employment records, insurance records, pharmacy records, etc., provided by other parties, their counsel and/or medical providers
· Reviews the file to understand the alleged injuries and damages and identify missing records and/or additional records needed
· Responsible for analyzing the relationship of treatment to the alleged injuries and determining discrepancies therein
· Reviewing treatment records and communicating all issues to the responsible attorney and paralegal.
· Draft, review and edit medical record summaries and generate reports to keep attorneys and paralegals updated with matter status
Qualifications/Experience:
· Minimum of three years related experience.
· Experience working in personal injury litigation environment (law firm, insurance carrier, etc.)
· Strong background in analyzing and summarizing medical records
· Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with clients, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate over the phone
· Must be a highly motivated multi-tasker with excellent research, analytical and above average computer skills and knowledge
· Good decision-making skills and the ability to function well under stress while working in a fast-paced environment in order to meet deadlines and deal with pressure situations
· Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products (including Outlook, Word and Excel ) and in using web-based applications
· Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and deal with interruptions
· Strong attention to detail
· Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics, good judgment and maintain the confidentiality of information
