What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Bus Driver position at Dodge City Family YMCA?
GENERAL FUNCTION
The objective of the Bus Driver is to safely transport our Child Care kids to and from activities. The focus of the job is to provide quality enrichment/daycare for school age children during non-school hours during transportation. The bus driver will be fully responsible for direct, interactive supervision of the children enrolled in the program, and the implementation of the after school program.
KNOW-HOW / QUALIFICATIONS
- Bus Drivers are required to have a CDL. Also, some training in child care such as babysitting classes/experience, paraprofessional status, or teaching certificate.
- Maturity, patience and good judgment are needed in dealing with the children/parents and handling the pressures of the job as they arise.
- Knowledge of the health field.
- Must be current in CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Current driver’s license with acceptable record and vehicle liability insurance.
- Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and general public.
- Personality traits must include honestly, friendliness, dependability, self-initiative and respect for personal and property rights.
- Ability to communicate well with staff, volunteers and program participants.
- Physically able to move freely throughout the facility and other program sites and to lift 50 pounds.
- Maturity, tactfulness and good judgement are needed to handle supervision problems.
- Must be able to speak clearly and articulate accurate information.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
- Safely transport YMCA Child Care participants from point A to point B as designated on the route decided by the Family Director.
- Administer the before / After School Program as directed by Site Director and/or Child Care Director.
- Treat each child with dignity and Respect
- Guide and discipline in a positive manner
- Direct, interactive supervision of children at all times
- Inform parents of schedules, changes, rules and regulations as it relates to School Age Child Care policies
- Execute all YMCA School Age Child Care policies, rules and regulations
- Commitment to the YMCA Mission Statement and Core Values
- Any other duties assigned or deemed necessary by the Family Director and/or Child Care Director
- Commitment to the YMCA Core Values and Mission and incorporate into all programs.
- Any other work deemed necessary by the Family Director.

Operate in a professional manner when consulting with any community or staff member. Relationship building is critical to the success of the Bus Driver. It is critical for this position to develop and maintain good relations with schools, churches, hospital, State dept. of Health, and other working agencies with the YMCA.

The incumbent will be successful if the recruitment and development of an effective program base resulting in quality programs for the youth and families at the Dodge City Family YMCA. This position ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
