Job Title : Life Skills Teacher
Position Function : Teaches and facilitates learning and maintains academic progress, discipline, and records for students at the middle school grade level. Works with parents and students to provide and implement classroom education to meet the needs of all students.
Requirements :
Kansas certification required, or certification in a different state with qualifications that allow for licensure in Kansas. Endorsement in Family & Consumer Science, Home Economics Junior High, Home Economics, Home Economics Voc St Apv Prog, Vocational Home Economics required.
Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind preferred.
Advanced degree, experience and / or specialized training in curriculum content and instructional pedagogy relative to assignment preferred.
Knowledge and experience with instruction, methodology and materials related to bilingual education. ESL / ESOL endorsement preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with fellow educators to develop, implement and evaluate instructional strategies and materials to improve teaching and learning for all students
Kansas Certification of Health on file in the Central Office.
Personal Qualities - Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students.
Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health.
Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
Demonstrated ability to assess needs and respond with appropriate action to achieve goals - persistent problem solver
Flexibility with schedule, program demands and student needs
Demonstrated ability to self-start
Demonstrated ability to respond to needs creatively and independently
Evidence of confidence necessary to lead and humility necessary to follow directions

Essential Performance Responsibilities :
Instructs through lectures, discussions and demonstrations in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or social studies
Establishes clear objective for all lessons, unites and projects, communicates those objectives to students
Collaborates and communicates with staff to meet the education needs of students
Creates, administers, and grades tests to evaluate student progress
Establishes and enforces rules and procedures which help maintain order in the classroom
Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on the progress of students. Discusses students` problems and progress with parents and staff
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
Prepares classroom instructions to promote students` success on state assessment exams
Observes, enforces, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
Uses good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
