Data Engineer

Data Warehousing:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines from SAP S4 HANA to our cloud data warehouse (SAP Datasphere)

• Monitor and optimize query performance using explain plans and performance metrics

• Design and implement partitioning strategies for large tables

• Create and maintain appropriate clustering keys and sort keys

• Implement data lifecycle management and archival strategies

• Set up and maintain query queues and workload management

• Create and maintain performance-focused indexing strategies

• Monitor and resolve warehouse concurrency issues

• Implement caching strategies where appropriate

• Optimize storage costs through compression and vacuum operations

• Set up automated performance monitoring and alerting

• Conduct regular performance audits and optimization sprints

• Balance performance requirements with cost considerations

• Implement query optimization patterns such as result set caching and query rewriting

API Integration:

• Create and maintain API integrations utilizing MuleSoft to extract data from various enterprise systems

• Utilize MuleSoft to build SaaS to SaaS integrations as well as SaaS to warehouse solutions

• Build scalable and efficient data pipelines to consistently integrate data between systems

Data Modeling:

• Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for data extraction and transformation

• Design and implement dimensional data models and fact tables optimized for analytical queries

• Transform raw operational data into well-structured, documented analytical models

• Implement efficient materialized views and aggregate tables

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

Critical Technical Skills:

• 3 years of experience in data engineering or similar role

• Strong expertise in SQL and data warehouse concepts

• Proven experience in dimensional modeling and data warehouse design

• Experience with star schema and other data modeling patterns

• Demonstrated ability to transform complex operational data models into analytical structures

• Experience extracting and transforming data from ERP systems (preferably SAP S4 HANA)

• Proficiency in building and maintaining automated data pipelines

• Strong background in API integration and RESTful web services

• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks

• Proven track record of optimizing cloud data warehouse performance

• Experience with query optimization and performance tuning

• Advanced SQL (writing complex queries, stored procedures, optimization)

• Data modeling tools and methodologies

• ETL/ELT tools

• Experience with modern data warehouse platforms

• Python or similar programming language

• Version control systems (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git, etc.)

• API integration experience

• Data quality and testing frameworks

• Expertise in Kimball methodology and data warehouse design patterns

• Experience with real-time data processing

• Strong background in data governance principles

• Experience with metadata management and business glossaries

• Background in business intelligence tools, preferably Power BI

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools

• Certification in relevant cloud platforms

Physical Demands:
