What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interventionist - Reading (SY 25-26) position at DODSON ELEMENTARY?
Primary Purpose:
The interventionist shall improve student success in reading by implementing district approved reading curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing prescriptive lesson plans; providing a positive and safe learning environment; and providing feedback on reading progress, expectations and goals to students, parents, teachers, and administration.

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
(Preferred certifications include: ESL, GT)

Three years exemplary experience as a classroom teacher preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Literacy Program Development:
- Utilizes information from norm-referenced assessments, criterion-referenced assessment, formal and informal reading inventories, observations, anecdotal records, and additional indicators of students’ progress to improve reading intervention strategies
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve literacy program
- Participate in campus PLT meetings and other professional development activities, as appropriate
- Maintain detailed inventory of reading intervention materials
- Provide professional development to campuses (relating to intervention) through a variety of delivery methods
- Interpret and provide student data to campus and district administration in user-friendly terminology
- Maintain confidentiality of all information for the purpose of protection of students, staff, and the district
Services to Students:
- Provide in-depth diagnostic assessments to students
- Provide intervention, support, and/or enrichment to students, as needed
- Monitor progress of student in reading development through the collection of data
- Instruct students individually, in small groups, and whole classes for the purpose of improving their success in reading through a prescribed course of study
Services to Parents:
- Collaborate with parents to promote literacy in the home and to meet the student’s needs
- Coordinate programs that promote independent reading
- Interpret progress monitoring data and assessment data for parents
- Communicate with parents on a frequent basis to ensure student success
Working Conditions:
The reading interventionist must maintain emotional control under stress, as well as be very flexible to meet the needs of the staff members in their department. The duties will be physically demanding – travel between campuses, transporting media equipment and other classroom materials.
