Our firm is seeking a Senior Tax Associate in our Troy, MI office to specialize in preparing trust, estate tax and fiduciary income tax returns in compliance with tax laws and regulations. This associate will interact with clients on a regular basis while reporting to firm shareholders within our Domestic Tax Group. The associate will work with legal and tax professionals and taxing authorities on matters relating to federal and state estate and fiduciary income taxes, postmortem tax issues and estate administration.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare Federal Form 706 estate tax returns, state estate or inheritance returns and federal and state fiduciary income tax returns in compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Work with clients, the estates attorney, related professionals and internal engagement team to resolve tax-related issues and administration matters.
- Review, analyze, and interpret trust documents and wills and develop knowledge about tax implications of language in documents.
- Responsible for meeting time constraints and client deadlines
- Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationship
- Participate in firm training courses to further develop technical skills
- Provide excellent client service by producing quality work, quick turnaround and attentive service
- Assist in tax research related to trust and estate laws
- Assist team in developing new processes and improve existing processes to streamline services for estate compliance and estate related tax consulting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- 1-3 years of recent public accounting experience or related experience
- CPA License preferred
- Demonstrated technical knowledge in trust and estate tax returns
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform multiple engagements and meet deadlines
- Team player that can also work well independently
