Our firm is seeking a Senior Associate to join our Troy, MI office. The Senior Associate will have the opportunity to specialize in the non-profit sector. Flexible and reduced work schedules can be arranged for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a member of an engagement team serving clients in the non-profit sector.
- Participate and lead all phases of an audit, including planning, control analysis and testing, substantive procedures, as well as identifying and assisting clients with issues and reporting.
- Preparation and review of financial statements, workpapers, audit programs, etc.
- Provide tax compliance and consulting services for non-profit clients.
- Prepare 990 tax returns and prepare forms 990-T and certain state filings (if applicable)
- Collaborate with engagement team members and client staff to effectively meet and exceed client expectations in the areas of tax compliance.
- Identify and resolve tax compliance discrepancies and problems that may arise.
- Reviewing and analyzing client internal controls.
- Work closely with clients and associates to develop client and project risk assessments, implementations, and recommendations.
- Present new ideas and improvements to current processes and tasks in order to achieve firm and departmental goals.
- Train new and less experienced associates on firm technology, processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting required.
- Minimum 2 years of current experience working in public accounting, with non-profit clients.
- Minimum 2 years experience preparing 990 tax returns.
- CPA License preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient knowledge of tax and accounting research techniques.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- ProSystem Engagement experience a plus.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technology platforms.
