Position Summary:
The Veteran Liaison serves as a bridge between veterans, their families, and Dog Tag Buddies. This role requires cultural competency regarding veterans and their unique needs, including familiarity with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and the role of service dogs in recovery and empowerment. The Veteran Liaison will guide applicants through the application process, assist with onboarding, and provide ongoing support throughout the two-year training program. Administrative Assistant responsibilities of this position play a crucial role in supporting daily operations, ensuring efficient office management, and providing exceptional customer service. This position requires strong organizational skills, proficiency in various office software, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Review & Support:
- Generate reports and organize application and intake process for veterans utilizing organization software.
- Review and assess veteran applications to ensure eligibility and completeness.
- Work closely with veterans and their families to guide them through the application process, providing assistance as needed.
Program Coordination:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to evaluate applications and determine program suitability.
- Assist in onboarding new participants into the two-year service dog training program.
- Serve as a point of contact for veterans throughout their training journey, addressing questions and concerns.
Relationship Building:
- Establish trust and rapport with veterans and their families to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Act as a liaison between Dog Tag Buddies staff, trainers, and program participants to ensure clear communication and alignment of expectations.
Cultural Competency & Advocacy:
- Leverage knowledge of veteran culture, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and service dogs to provide empathetic and informed support.
- Advocate for the unique needs of veterans and their families within the organization.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of applications, participant progress, and communications.
- Generate reports for the Executive Director regarding application status and program milestones.
Other General Responsibilities:
- Handling office tasks such as filing, generating reports and presentations, setting up for meetings, and reordering supplies.
- Providing real-time scheduling support by meeting with senior management weekly, booking appointments, and managing calendars
- Answering office phone calls and routing callers to the appropriate party
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Veteran or strong background working with veteran populations preferred.
- Deep understanding of PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and the role of service dogs in recovery.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in nonprofit or social services settings.
- Familiarity with service dog training programs.
- Background in case management or veteran advocacy.
- Strong office management skills with a focus on efficiency and organization.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent proofreading abilities to ensure accuracy in all communications and documents.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly demeanor when interacting with clients.
- Proficient computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 32 per week
