Description:

The Advisor position on the Puppy Raising Services team serves to provide direct supervision and management of local puppy clubs within an assigned region, providing training and on-going development of volunteer Club Leaders/leadership teams as well as puppy raisers to maximize the volunteer experience in accordance with Puppy Raising Services best practices, policies, and protocols.

 

The Advisor works to ensure that puppies are prepared to be “In for Training Ready.” They will keep the Puppy Training Manager apprised of any ongoing Club leadership, raiser, and/or puppy activities and concerns. 

 

The position requires a solid background and understanding of positive dog training techniques, behavior modification, and an ability to instruct in both group and one-on-one settings.  Excellent people skills, teaching, and team building skills are considered essential. 

 

This is a 40 hours per week position, which includes working some evenings and weekends and requiring periodic travel.

 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Provide support to and collaborate with Club Leaders on strategies to engage and energize raisers via regularly scheduled in person visits with local groups and out of state groups and regularly scheduled teleconference meetings with club leadership
  • Develop and implement marketing and recruitment plans to grow strategic markets
  • Oversee the processing and onboarding of applicants in collaboration with local Club Leaders
  • Train Club Leadership and Puppy Raisers in proper obedience and dog-handling techniques; provide coaching and support at group meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Assessment of raiser skills both for purposes of matching and placing puppies with qualified raisers as well as the ongoing success of the match and make recommendations to the Puppy Placement Specialist
  • Assessment of puppy development in collaboration with the Club Leader
  • Conduct Walk and Talk assessments
  • Review puppy evaluations
  • Review training reports of in for training dogs and distribute to appropriate Club Leaders
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve puppy behavior and training issues and maintain ongoing record of said issues
  • Evaluate puppies in the field and recommend career transfers and spay/neuters based on medical or behavior issues as needed
  • Teach puppy kindergarten or puppy obedience classes as needed
  • Provide continuing education for Club Leaders and puppy raisers as needed at conferences, workshops, webinars, information sessions etc.
  • Review and update training protocols on an ongoing basis in any source materials
  • Post articles, photos and information on the Club Leader and Puppy Raiser Facebook pages and act as administrator on those pages
  • Update online Club Leader and Raiser Resources page as needed
  • Ensure that Club Leader certifications requirements are recorded accurately, and that Club Leader information is up to date.
  • Maintain records of meeting schedules and attendance
  • Act as Club Leader as needed
  • Communicate requests and logistical information to Club Leaders and raisers to ensure that requests for puppy raiser speakers on behalf of Dogs Inc to outside groups are fulfilled.
  • Devise and implement strategies to leverage interest of potential and current puppy raisers to further the mission of Dogs Inc
  • Communicate proactively relevant policies, school updates, and Club Leader and Puppy Raiser responsibilities as needed
  • Assist in the mobilization of Puppy Raisers for fundraising, development and marketing initiatives
  • Maintain the confidentiality of program dogs and Puppy Raisers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • All employees are responsible for keeping the grounds of Dogs Inc safe and clean. Reporting or fixing safety hazards, picking up trash and assisting our guests and volunteers are required of all employees.

Qualifications:         

  • Prior supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Background in volunteer management, marketing, and/or recruitment
  • Excellent people skills, teaching and team building skills considered essential.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communications with experience in conflict resolution
  • Highly developed time management and organizational skills.
  • Should be comfortable presenting to groups and have some public relations knowledge and effectiveness in working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of and background in positive dog training techniques and dog development.
  • Background and experience in dog and puppy handling and training
