What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Trainer - Instructor position at Dogtopia of Madison West?
Requirements:
- Eligibility to sit for CCPDT exam within 1 year of hire or already completed CPDT-KA, CPDT-KSA, or CBCC-KA certification
- Become AKC CGC/STAR Puppy/ Tricks Evaluator Certified within 6 months of hire
- Some weekend availability
Preferably applicants will have experience:
- Instructing group dog training classes
- Training dogs 1:1
- Experience with dog social behaviors

What you can offer us:
Day to Day Duties
- Consult on curriculum for Dogtopia of Madison Wests dog training services
- Collaborate and schedule classes & services
- Manage group classes assigned to you including but not limited to sending welcome contact, classroom set up/tear down, payments, weekly homework reviews, and client questions.
- Serve as a Training Support for other Instructors as needed
- Remain in compliance with Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) training techniques when performing all training services for Dogtopia of Madison West’s customers
- Remain in compliance with CCPDT Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
- Ensure the dogs’ training environment is clean, healthy, and positive
- Contribute content for the monthly newsletter
- Contribute content for social media posts and advertisements
- Consult on documents, content, and curriculum for training services in alignment with Dogtopia’s Brand
- Become proficient in POS software (training to be provided)
- Ensure behavior and decisions are aligned with the Leadership Pledge, Dogtopia’s Noble Cause, and our Dogtopia-isms
Customer Service and Presentation
- Greet all customers warmly and promptly
- Be knowledgeable on all of pricing and services offered by Dogtopia of Madison West
- Make contact with pet parents to confirm bookings, and collect payments
- Communicate transparently and kindly to parents on their dog’s behavior and experience at Dogtopia
- Educate customers on training techniques that are compliant with R and LIMA to reinforce and preserve the behaviors and skills that their dogs have gained throughout training sessions
- Offer guidance to customers on training tools, dog care supplies, and other equipment
- Perform other customer service requirements outlined in training services curriculum
- Participate in local marketing and networking opportunities within the community that may promote Dogtopia’s training services
- Maintain confidentiality in Dogtopia practices and all aspects of the business
- Dress professionally and according to Dogtopia’s dress code
- Fluently answer questions from pet parents or collaborate with the team to find a solution for the pet parent.
