JOB SUMMARY: Provide housekeeping services to Doheny Eye Institute.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Housekeeping Services (Percentage of time: 70%)

1. Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

2. Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, etc.

3. Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, hardware, partitions, floors, etc.

4. Clean windows/mirrors in bathrooms and entrance/exit ways.

5. Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing as scheduled.

6. Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, extracting, etc.

7. Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, etc.

8. Clean hallways, stairways and elevators.

9. Care for and clean the grounds as scheduled.

10. Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles.

11. Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the work day.

12. Relieve, assist, or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by the supervisor.

13. Set up tables, chairs, and meeting rooms as directed.

SAFETY AND SANITATION (Percentage of time: 15%)

1. Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.

2. Report any damage or unsafe conditions to facility property as directed

3. Report any hazardous conditions or problems relating to heating/cooling systems as directed.

4. Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.

5. Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding map/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.

6. Be responsible for the security of designed areas/buildings as directed.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLY FUNCTIONS (Percentage of time: 10%)

1. Assure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.

2. Keep the supervisor informed of supply needs.

3. Report burned-out light bulbs, exit lights, fluorescent lights, etc. to the supervisor as soon as possible.

4. Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc. as directed or requested.

5. Ensure that an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies to perform daily tasks are maintained in utility/janitorial closets.

6. Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc. as directed.

HUMAN RESOURCE/STAFF DEVELOPMENT (Percentage of time: 5%)

1. Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called.

2. Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed.

3. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc. as scheduled or as directed.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE, TRAINING:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six months of cleaning experience preferred.

Abilities and Characteristics:

A. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.

B. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

C. Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas, must perform regular inspection.

D. Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel.

E. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices

F. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, and cleaning instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

2. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

3. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel.

4. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

5. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in all areas of the facility.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule cleaning activities.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.
  • Communicates with housekeeping personnel and other positions temporarily when necessary. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • May be required to work weekends or holidays.
  • May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDES:

Vacuum, mop, tools, trash containers, sharps containers, standard cleaning equipment, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 - $18.50 per hour
