Job Brief:
Doherty Steel is searching for Material Handlers who will efficiently assist with the movement of material through the shop. The primary role is to relocate material (structural steel beams and parts) from conveyors and prep it for Fabrication lines. Material handlers use various equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes and other rigging methods to move materials safely and quickly.
Material Handler / Expeditor Responsibilities:
- Adhere to safety protocols & practices.
- Read and interpret bill of materials.
- Properly identify material sizes and thickness.
- Move materials using forklifts, overhead cranes and other rigging methods.
Requirements:
- Strong organizations skills
- Strong communication skills
- Unload and move material to desired locations
- Experience with overhead cranes and other rigging methods
- Ability to work overtime when necessary
- Give proper attention to detail
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean area
- Work smart, safe and adhere to PPE requirements
- Ability to take direction in order to succeed
- Lift and carry upwards of 50 pounds
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions inside and outside our manufacturing facility
- Strong hand/eye coordination
