What are the responsibilities and job description for the Archaeologist position at Dokken Engineering?
We have an immediate opening for a Full or Part Time Archaeologist in our Folsom office with a desire to be part of a close‑knit and energetic multidisciplinary environmental team. This individual will work closely with our two Principal archaeologists to become an established and integral part of our Cultural Management Team. Our Cultural Management Team offers specialized expertise to local, state, and federal agencies across California. We collaborate closely with clients and our internal engineering team to design projects that not only meet community needs but also minimize or avoid impacts to cultural resources. This approach ensures that we respect and preserve our cultural heritage while delivering essential services. Achieving this balance requires creative thinking, strong collaboration, and input from a variety of disciplines.

Who You Are (Minimum Requirements):
We are seeking an individual with a minimum of 5 years’ experience who will be responsible for field surveys, recordation of archaeological resources, archival research, Native American Tribal Government consultation, resource evaluations, construction monitoring, and cultural report drafting needed to comply with both the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. Additionally, you will have:
· Completed an archaeological field school.
· Completed a BA, BS, or MA in anthropology, archaeology, history, geoarchaeology, or cultural resource management.
· 5 years of experience in cultural resource management/archaeology, preferably in California, including:
· Archaeological Field Survey
· Extended Phase I Presence/Absence Testing
· Report Writing (primary author)
· Native American Consultation
· Historical Groups Consultation
· Archival Research
· GPS/GIS data collection and mapping
· Strong understanding of CEQA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and NEPA
· Experience with public works projects, transportation projects, and/or the Caltrans Section 106 process, is preferred.
What You Will Do:
· Conducting literature research and record searches
· Coordinating Native American consultation
· Leading archaeological field surveys and preparing site documentation
· Conducting archaeological excavation (testing and data recovery)
· Writing cultural reports including, but not limited to, Caltrans-formatted cultural reports, as primary author
· Writing the cultural sections of CEQA/NEPA environmental documents
· Working with clients, regulatory authorities, and subconsultants
· Assisting with the development and implementation of mitigation and monitoring reporting programs
· Developing creative solutions to avoid impacts to cultural resources
FLSA Status:Full-Time Exempt
Compensation: Competitive salary ranging from $80,000 - $130,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Location: In-person at the Folsom HQ office. Intermittent travel throughout the State will be required for cultural surveys and in-field consultation meetings. Hybrid work from home schedule is a potential after a probationary period.
