What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barback position at Domaine Carneros Winery?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Barback team is responsible for keeping the Visitor Center back of house areas cleaned, organized, and sanitized. This role supports front of house staff by removing and washing dirty dishes and glassware, and restocking dishes, glassware, and wine bottles as necessary for a seamless workflow.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to all standard operating procedures for the Barback team, including operational etiquette for equipment safety of buffing station, dishwashing area, glass handling, stocking, and other day-to-day functions.
- Wash and polish glassware; Monitors the supply of clean glassware and maintains adequate stock to ensure the necessary amount is available throughout daily operations.
- Ensure that stocking is completed daily, and adequate supply is maintained for wine, other beverages, and supplies in the storage areas, refrigerators, shelving, bar areas, and any other area as directed.
- Transports dirty wine racks and dishes to the kitchen for washing.
- Washes dirty glassware and other dishes during service.
- Open buffing station, prepare and restock missing items that will be needed for the day’s service.
- Comply with the Visitor Center’s cleaning and sanitation procedures and protocol.
- Assist in the packing of wine club pick up orders and preparation for sending unclaimed orders to shipping department
- Responsible for the proper disposal of food, trash, plastics, etc. into the garbage, compost, or recycling bins throughout the day as necessary.
- Maintain constant communication with the Leads and Management throughout the day; reprioritize tasks as needed to best assist Servers and Bartenders.
- Provide coverage in other back of house areas of responsibilities as needed.
- Assist with restroom cleaning and restocking of paper goods as assigned.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work conditions in certain areas of the winery and Visitor Center are cold, wet, slippery and/or noisy. Frequent walking, including over uneven ground is required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and bend, lift, twist, kneel, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, sometimes for extended periods, and to lift and carry heavy items up to 40 pounds (may be aided).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior back of house experience in a fast-past restaurant or winery environment is preferred
- Ability to portray a warm and welcoming demeanor, even under stress and in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong ability to successfully manage multiple requests simultaneously
- Excellent verbal communications skills; able to effectively interact with co-workers
- Clean and professional appearance in compliance to the Company dress code.
- Ability to prioritize and problem solve effectively
- Ability to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary
- Knowledge of wines, winemaking, and Napa and Sonoma areas is preferred
The schedule at this time for this position is Wednesday-Sunday. This position is part of our Tip Pool and participates in our Visitor Center's Sales Incentive Plan.
