Punch Press Die Setter
Department: Stamping
Schedule: Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm Hours per week: 40
Reporting Relationships: Production Control Manager Salary / Hourly: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose of job:
Provides support to the production team by setting up presses ranging in size according to the production schedule. Responsible for loading metal coils, performing straightening operations and installing dies, along with trouble shooting common issues involving improper set-up. All set-ups must be accurate, efficient, and consistent to achieve a quality part exceeding customer standards and on-time-delivery metrics.
Essential functions of the job:
- Understand all department policies, procedures, and guidelines while maintaining a safe and clean work environment
- Performs set-up and operating functions on all equipment related to the press room. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and address any problems that may occur during the set-up or production process
- Completes various quality inspections (first article, in-process, last article) using a wide range of measuring tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, etc) to ensure satisfactory quality standards and low scrap metrics
- Perform “basic” routine maintenance on tools and press equipment contributing to Domeny’s “TPM” system
- Assumes additional roles (Operator, Material Handler, etc) within the department “as needed”. Participates in various cross training assignments focused on enhancing personal skillsets related to industry & company needs
Required skills and Abilities:
- Proficient utilizing various types of inspecting tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, etc)
- Must be able to understand basic blueprints
- Demonstrates a strong “team player” mentality by working closely with the Tool room and Quality departments
- Bilingual a plus
Education and Experience:
- HS Diploma or GED preferred
- 1 year punch press set-up experience or 3 years of experience as a press operator within the manufacturing industry (Preferred)
- Must be able to obtain a Forklift certification
Physical Demands:
- This position requires 10% clerical and planning and 90% material handling, technical machine operation, and/or walking and assisting production employees.
- Safety glasses, hearing protection, and proper foot protection must be worn.
- Ability to lift weights up to 45 lbs.
