Hours: Saturday and Sunday 10am-8pm (Part-time)
Pay: $25/hr
DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network) is a holistic domestic violence agency in South King County dedicated to supporting survivors and working toward ending domestic violence. We provide emergency shelter, mobile advocacy, legal support, mental health services, and more—meeting survivors where they are and offering them the tools to rebuild their lives.
What You’ll DoAs a Shelter Advocate, you’ll provide trauma-informed advocacy for survivors and their children residing in our shelter. Your role will include:
✔ Crisis Intervention & Advocacy
- Providing compassionate, empowerment-based support and safety planning.
- Accompanying survivors to appointments and connecting them with critical resources.
- Ensuring survivors feel heard, supported, and respected in their choices.
✔ Shelter Operations & Community Engagement
- Work with the team to prepare rooms when families move on, creating a welcoming and safe environment for new shelter residents.
- Coordinating with external service providers and making referrals.
- Assisting in donor and partner pickups when needed, including loading and unloading the vehicles.
- Perform other operational tasks items as needed and assigned.
✔ 24hr Advocacy and Support Line & Administrative Support
- Answering crisis calls and providing immediate support and referrals.
- Accurately maintaining client records and documenting and completing relevant paperwork in a timely matter.
- Maintain confidentiality, inform clients of mandated reporting exceptions.
- Support onboarding new staff and interns.

- Experience in domestic violence advocacy, trauma-informed care, or related social services.
- Strong communication skills, especially in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database systems.
- Physical Abilities:
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis including
answering the front door
• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files and reach overhead
• Physically able to walk or run if needed, climb stairs without difficulty
• Ability to lift and carry at least 60 pounds - Must be able to pass a Washington State background check.
- Valid WA driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation required.

About DAWN: DAWN is a holistic domestic violence agency located in South King County supporting survivors of domestic violence, the community, and other social services agencies towards the goal of ending domestic violence. Through our wide variety of programming, we strive to serve survivors wherever they are in their relationships, meeting their needs as they prioritize them, and working with them physically wherever they deem safe, within the South King County region. Our programs include a 24-hour advocacy support hotline, confidential emergency shelter, mobile/community advocacy, support groups, legal advocacy, immigrant advocacy, children’s advocacy, mental health services, TANF advocacy, prevention and education services, and the marketplace food program. While working with us, survivors and their families are offered advocacy, resources, and a safe place to begin again.
