What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Advocate position at Domestic Violence Intervention Center?
The Child Advocate is a full-time position of 40 hours per weekly. This position has two (2) primary responsibilities: direct service with the children affected by domestic violence and working with parents of these children on non-violent parenting skills. The Child Advocate will also participate in community education on child abuse and child related issues.
The Child Advocate will demonstrate sensitivity to victims of domestic violence and their children, particularly when they are in crisis situations; good communication skills, an ability to provide non-judgmental listening; ability to advocate within the social service and educational systems. This person must also demonstrate a commitment to working with all clients and children, regardless of racial, economic, class, or other difference; patience and some flexibility in scheduling of time; an ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, other co-workers, and relate to volunteers. The person must be able to make independent decisions. This person will demonstrate, from experience and/or training that she/he has knowledge about working with children form violent homes. A college degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field is required. Personal or work experiences with abusive situations are also criteria considered useful in qualifying for this position.

Pay: $13.50 - $16.50 per hour
