What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advocate position at Domestic Violence Services, Inc.?
Job Summary:
- Direct Service Respond to both crisis and non-crisis clients in person or by phone including medical facilities
- Provide safety planning for all clients and advocate for clients with other community providers Notify Administration of maintenance issues
- Provide Life Skills or other classes for clients
- Maintain vigilance regarding client health and safety issues
- Staff office, answer phones, and provide safety planning and services for walk-in clients
- Conduct support groups
- Provide care of facilities, shelter, or office as requested
- Assist with court hearings and restraining orders
- Provide transportation for clients in crisis
- Monitor supplies
- Problem solve for clients and communicate with Administration regarding concerns
- Maintain client records and update room board electronically and in shelter
When assigned to shelter:
- Conduct shelter intakes, house meetings, assess client needs, and explain shelter rules, guidelines and procedures, provide information and referrals
- Conduct basic yard maintenance including watering, weeding, raking, mowing, sweeping, picking up litter, etc.
Administrative
- Keep accurate records and provide complete and timely statistical information
- Attend staff meetings and training
- Provide documentation when requested by Administration Community
- Assist with event planning and implementation
DESIRED QUALITIES:
Good judgment, problem solver, understands boundaries, sensitivity, cultural competence, excellent customer service skills. Ability to work with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of community resources.
TRAINING:
Must complete basic Domestic Violence Services training
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Spanish proficiency STRONGLY preferred. Able to communicate professionally in writing and verbally with bilingual pay differential for qualified employees.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current Oregon driver license with clean driving record and proof of current auto insurance.
