Dallas Creek Water Company is seeking a dedicated and dependable Water Distribution Assistant to support daily operations at our water treatment plant and assist with general water distribution maintenance. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of the plant, the integrity of the water distribution system, and the continued delivery of safe drinking water to the community. This position requires someone with a strong mechanical aptitude, good attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist Plant ORC with Daily Tasks and Routine Maintenance at the Water Plant:
- Loading and storing new chemical barrels.
- Remove empty chemical barrels and dispose of them properly.
2. General Distribution Maintenance:
- Accurately locate water mains and property lines for 811 call locate requests.
- Routinely check the distribution system, including hydrants, water towers, and services, for visible or audible damage.
- Perform general maintenance, including weeding, uncovering, and painting valves and hydrants.
- Flush water strategically through hydrants to maintain water quality.
- Inspect every water meter annually for leaks and damage.
- Exercise every mainline valve and fire hydrant annually to ensure proper functionality.
- Clean, maintain, and store tools to ensure readiness for any project.
3. Other Tasks:
- Replace meters and install meter pits for new construction projects.
- Replace and repair valves and hydrants when failures occur.
- Remove snow around the plant using a shovel or backhoe.
- Replace, repair, and maintain mainline pressure reducing valves (PRVs) in vaults.
- Perform maintenance on backhoes, including tire checks, oil changes, greasing bearings, and cleaning.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous experience in water distribution, maintenance, or similar roles is preferred but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use and maintain various tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot issues.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects and perform physical tasks.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and be on-call as needed.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Working Conditions:
- This position involves physical labor, working in outdoor environments, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May include evening, weekend, or on-call hours as needed.
- Must be able to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying equipment.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
