SUMMARY:
Responsible for the daily operations of the Environmental Services department and audio-visual set ups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assumes responsibility, planning, and accountability for the operation of the Environmental Services Department.
- Oversees the day-to-day workflow, scheduling, and assignments of the department and inspects work for accuracy to standards, cleanliness, compliance, and timeliness.
- Maintains accurate written documentation of cleaning schedules, equipment maintenance, and inspections by location.
- Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service or equipment and takes appropriate, timely corrective action.
- Collaborates with Directors of DCM and Marywood and Aquinata Hall Administrator as well as staff at off Campus locations to deliver required services in a timely and accurate manner.
- Conducts research to maintain updated, state-of-the-art practices, equipment, supplies, and methods, and then applies them where needed.
- Ensures good stewardship of all departmental equipment and supplies by educating staff on proper use and care.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment. Prepares requisitions for replacement of depleted inventory or for items in need of repair.
- Develops and implements departmental orientation training programs. Ensures quarterly in-service training to explain policies and work procedures and to demonstrate the correct and safe use of products and equipment.
- Directs the Campus floor care program including, but not limited to, buffing, stripping, refinishing, and carpet cleaning. Coordinates these activities with the appropriate Directors for safety and the least amount of disruption.
- Responsible for coordinating with vendors for supplies, rugs, and carpet cleaning, as needed.
- Approves departmental invoices.
- Responsible for audio-visual set-ups and maintenance for events, meetings, and other requests.
- Responsible for table and chair set up for gatherings and meetings.
- Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the facility and equipment to determine the need for maintenance, repairs, or replacement. Works closely with the Maintenance Dept. to ensure that the facility is properly maintained. Reports and assists in correcting any unsafe conditions.
- Conducts regular inspections for vermin, pests, and insects in buildings. Reports findings to Director of Facilities and Operations and takes appropriate action to resolve issues with pest control vendor.
- Performs “hands on” environmental services, as needed.
- Meets with staff on a regular basis to share updates and obtain input on department operations and needs.
- Manages safety precautions as described in OSHA and industry standards.
- Approves Environmental Services payroll and requests for time off.
- Hires, supervises, and trains Environmental Services employees.
- Coaches, counsels, disciplines, and terminates staff as needed, coordinating with Human Resources on proper documentation and procedures.
- Completes all performance reviews for Environmental Services employees.
- Demonstrates care and respect in relationships with others.
- Participates in the Care-of-the-Earth vision by managing the department toward use of fewer material resources, more sustainable materials and practices, recycling, and composting.
- Hours may include some weekends, evenings, or holidays, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three to five years of supervisory and/or management experience with proven leadership abilities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Significant knowledge of housekeeping equipment, standards, and practices.
- Good visual acuity needed to inspect areas.
- Ability to work without supervision and exhibit good decision-making skills.
- Requires the ability to be understood and to understand a wide range of internal and external communications, including, but not limited to, Sisters, coworkers, guests, and vendors.
- Ability to operate various computer software and programs at an intermediate level such as Outlook, Word, Excel and proprietary programs.
- Preference given to candidates fluent in English and Spanish.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical exertion required, including occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs., bending, moving furniture, climbing 12 ft. ladders, extensive floor refinishing, and carpet cleaning.
JOB HAZARDS:
Potential for strains, cuts, bruises, and falls as well as skin irritations from chemicals. Special safety precautions and protective clothing required. Must be able to tolerate hot and cold temperatures.
