TITLE: Residence Life Graduate Assistant for Leadership and Programming
FLSA STATUS:  EXEMPT (stipend, tuition, room & board)
DEPARTMENT: Residence Life
REPORTS TO:   Residence Life Professional Staff
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY:
The Residence Life Graduate Assistant for Leadership and Programming (LPGA) will assist with the implementation and evaluation the residential programming model, emphasizing competencies including student engagement, positive relationships, student success, leadership, community, social justice, and wellness. The LPGA will assist in the budget management of residential programming model. The LPGA will oversee the Resident Assistant Office and assist with overseeing the resident assistants' use of the Student Involvement Resource Center (SIRC). The LPGA will assist in the on-call duty rotation, other departmental duties, and annual programs including training, recruitment selection, and other departmental initiatives and committees. All Graduate Assistants in the Office of Residence Life are expected to maintain an active presence within the community as well as assist in maintaining office coverage of 15 hours in the office.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 
Staff Supervision and Training
  • Supervise a team of Resident Assistants.
  • Conduct weekly or bi-weekly individual meetings with Student Staff members to develop and review goals/outcomes achieved, discuss issues, recognize contributions, and provide and solicit feedback.
  • Assess and facilitate the resolution of staff personnel issues.
  • Work with the professional staff in the Office of Residence Life to create and implement ongoing training/development according to staff needs.
 
Crisis Intervention
  • Participate in a graduate staff duty rotation.
  • Respond to crises and emergency situations using the departmental protocol, which includes in-person response and providing guidance to Student Staff and students.
  • Provide appropriate post-crisis referrals and follow-up with students and staff.
  
Residential Programming Model Coordination
  • Assist with the implementation and evaluation the residential programming model, emphasizing competencies including student engagement, positive relationships, student success, leadership, community, social justice, and wellness
  • Oversee the planning of programs and aid in the coordination RA (Resident Assistants) programming efforts.
  • Make programming purchases.
  • Utilize EngageDU database to facilitate various programming initiatives.
 
Student Conduct and Information Management
  • Serve as a hearing officer for conduct cases with students who have violated university and/or hall policies; adjudicate student conduct cases, upholding the Student Code of Conduct and hearing board policies.
 
Maintenance and Operations
  • Report on ongoing facility and safety/security needs.
  • Work cooperatively with Physical Plant staff to identify and coordinate staff response to maintenance concerns.
 
Departmental Involvement
  • Assist with maintaining office coverage during weekdays and normal office hours.
  • Attend various departmental meetings on a weekly/biweekly basis.
  • Attend and participate in all departmental, graduate, and Student Staff training.
  • Represent the department as needed at various functions and recruitment events.
  • Assist with professional staff selection as requested by the department.
  • Collaborate with other departmental and university offices including but not limited to Dominican University Campus Safety, Wellness Center, Student Involvement, Center for Cultural Liberation, Physical Plant, and Athletics.
 
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the department.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Residence Life Graduate Assistants are required to be enrolled in a Dominican University graduate program and need to be registered in a way that keeps them at full time through the academic year.
  • Residence Life Graduate Assistants are required to live on-campus within their assigned space.
  • Previous housing experience (i.e., resident assistant) and supervisory experience is preferred.

Remuneration:
  • Room & board package
  • Up to 6 credit hours of tuition remission for spring semester
  • $1000/month stipend; for 5 months (February through June)
  • Position is from January 2025 - May 2025
