The primary responsibilities for this role include the design, modeling, and development of protective relay settings for up to 69kV equipment. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are involved in industry-leading projects and initiatives like interconnecting 5000 MW of solar generation in the next 5 years, the first utility-owned offshore wind project in United States federal waters off the Atlantic coast, STATCOMS, IEC-61850, and the largest data center load growth in the world.Job Responsibilities – Engineer II / III : Develop and / or review protective relay settings, perform engineering calculations, analysis, and research for ET protection schemes inside the substation.Distinguished from Engineer I by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required.Provide advanced technical support to conceptual engineering teams, project management teams and ET Field Organization throughout the course of capital projects.Participate in various company teams and industry-level organizations to enhance ET’s system protection performance.Participate in trade and industry organizations and benchmarking activities.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceEngineer II : 3 years / Engineer III : 5 years of relevant engineering experience or demonstrated equivalent (Note : A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A an advanced degree can count as one year experience)Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.Strong oral and written communication skills.Equally effective with working independently or in a team environment.Ability to think analytically and learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems.Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred.Understanding of IEC 61850 communication protocol for intelligent substation protection is a plus.Experience with SAP work management systems is a plus.Programming skills for automation of system studies (e.g., Python, .NET, C#, etc.) is a plus.Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.Licenses, Certifications, or Quals DescriptionEngineer II : 3 years / Engineer III : 5 years of relevant engineering experience or demonstrated equivalent (Note : A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A an advanced degree can count as one year experience)Understanding of the principles of distribution relay protection preferredUnderstanding of AC / DC fundamentals, including three-phase power systems.Education RequirementsRequired degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree) : BachelorRequired discipline(s) : EngineeringREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA : For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met : Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orPossess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, orPossess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.For military applicants : Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years of experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership.Working ConditionsCold Up to 25%Energized Wires Up to 25%Heat Up to 25%Loud Noise Up to 25%Office Work Environment 76 -100%Operating Machinery Up to 25%Outdoors Up to 25%Radiation Up to 25%Travel Up to 25%Other Working ConditionsTest DescriptionNo Testing RequiredExport ControlCertain positions at Dominion Energy may involve access to information and technology subject to export controls under U.S. law.
