The location in Childersburg, Alabama is seeking talent to fill the position of Chip Mill Operator.
Primary Purpose:
Operate the chip mill equipment in a safe and productive manner performing production, maintenance and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety. Participate in a comprehensive safety program based on Domtar’s Safety and Health Management System. Ensure your personal safety by following company policy and proactively identifying and avoiding risks. Report any safety near misses and hazards and help communicate corrective actions. Participate in layered safety audits. Participate is safety inspections and hazard analysis and take actions to mitigate safety risk. Report safety concerns to the shift supervisor.
- Operations. Operate chip mill equipment in a safe, efficient and productive manner. Make suggestions for improvement in operations or equipment.
The chip mill equipment includes a log boom crane, front-end loader, mobile knuckle-boom loader, and chipping and debarking line.
- Other duties including housekeeping, assisting maintenance and grounds keeping will be assigned as needed.
- Continuous improvement. Make suggestions for improvement in operations, equipment, and/or safety practices and PPE.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to climb long steep stairs into crane and chipping line operator cabs.
- Must be able to climb vertical steps and or ladders into mobile equipment cabs.
- Able to maintain alert, coordinated physical movements of hands, arms and legs for sustained periods of up to ten hours with breaks.
- Able to safely lift objects as required up to fifty pounds.
- Must be able to maintain line of site in all four directions around the equipment during operations.
- Able to rotate head and torso as required.
You will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).
