Construction Laborer – Underground & Heavy Highway Construction (Camera Division)
Don Wartko Construction, Inc., (“DWC”) is a premier construction company based in Northeast Ohio and is seeking a self-motivated and disciplined laborer. DWC has been in business for over 50 years and specializes in underground utility and heavy highway construction.
We are seeking an experienced laborer. Experience with sewer camera work is a plus. Travel through Northeast Ohio will be required; however, employees do not remain on the job site overnight.
Qualifications:
- Physical strength and stamina for manual labor, including lifting heavy materials, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Ability to operate hand tools and camera equipment.
- Basic understanding of construction safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Union membership or willingness to join union.
Job Summary:
The Laborer (Camera Division) is responsible for operating specialized camera equipment to inspect the condition of underground sewer and drain pipes, to identify condition, defects, or potential cross-bores, by navigating the camera through the pipeline and documenting findings through video recordings and reports, all while adhering to safety protocols and supporting the construction of natural gas and water pipelines.
Responsibilities:
- Maneuver cameras within sewer lines to capture video footage of the pipe's interior condition.
- Observe video footage to locate and document issues such as cracks, leaks, root intrusion, pipe damage, blockages, pipe misalignment, and cross-bores.
- Accurately record inspection data including pipe size, location, depth, and severity of defects.
- Create detailed inspection logs with video footage, images, and observations of the pipe conditions.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on the camera system and camera truck to ensure optimal functionality.
- Access inspection points by opening cleanouts, manholes, and setting up the camera system.
- Communicate findings clearly to explain any issues identified in the inspection.
- Identify and safely work around existing underground utilities to avoid damage.
- Follow all safety regulations (including protocols for confined spaces and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment), environmental regulations, company policies and procedures, and client standard operating procedures.
- Perform additional duties as required by the needs of the company or as directed by the Foreman.
The Candidate must be able to work in a team setting or individually and be willing to help complete tasks around the job site as needed. The Candidate would follow all safety procedures and notify the foreman and Superintendent of hazards in the workplace.
Pay Rate and Benefits
The candidate must be a member of the Laborer’s Union or be willing to become a member. Pay will be determined based on experience in line with the Laborer Union’s current pay rate. Benefits, including insurance, pension, and disability are provided through membership with the Laborer’s Union. Paid qualification training is available to employees.
