Summary: The Bookkeeper/Audit Clerk is responsible for performing accounting and related tasks across a variety of areas within the Accounting function
Job Title: Bookkeeper/Audit Clerk
Location: Schenectady, NY 12304
Target Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30AM to 4:30PM
Target Duration/End Date: March 2027
Description of Roles and Responsibilities:
· Perform more complicated calculations work, spend most of your work time performing mathematical operations, and/or clerical activities related to mathematical operations, in the service of agency or program functions
· Calculations activities may include creating or editing spreadsheets, using calculators, and using other calculations-related devices or programs
· Your duties may include performing various financial, purchasing, or statistical functions
Mandatory/Minimum Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements:
Four-year degree in Accounting or related field. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in Accounting or related field
Qualification, Skills, Experience Requirements:
· Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records including financial software
· Highly organized and careful worker, highly self-motivated and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
· Knowledge of Office of the State Comptroller policies and procedures
· High level of discretion handling confidential matters
· Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
· Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment
· Working knowledge of business English
· Working knowledge of an alphanumeric keyboard
· Skill in the operation of a keyboard
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately
· Ability to write legibly
· Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, or data- bases
· Ability to get along well with others; Clerical aptitude; Mental alertness; Neatness; A high degree of accuracy; Integrity; Tact
· Word processing skills/abilities are a mandatory component of the assignment. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. is required
· Must have knowledge of basic accounting and financial record keeping procedures. Some knowledge of financial terminology is also required; ability to compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers
· May also perform a variety of analysis
Extended Qualifications:
· Ability to perform a variety of routine duties involving the use of procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standard practice where the employee could make minor decisions and use some judgment
· Ability to work from objectives defined by supervisor or by explicit procedures and rules
· Proceeds alone on routine work and refers questionable cases to supervisor
· Finished work not regularly reviewed by supervisor
· Performance of tasks and activities are reviewed by supervisor on a scheduled basis
· Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce
· Strong time management skills: ability to multi-task, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
· Ability to monitor vendor accounts and process payments/cancellation of authorizations/payments in a timely fashion
· Ability to learn computer programs specific to ACCES-VR
