Summary: The Saw Specialist will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting various saw machines, such as band saws and circular saws, in a manufacturing or machine shop setting. This role involves preparing materials for cutting, ensuring precision and quality control, performing regular maintenance on saw equipment, and adhering to safety protocols. The Saw Specialist will collaborate with other team members to meet production goals and maintain inventory levels of saw tools and consumables. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a focus on safety are essential for success in this position. Previous experience in a similar role and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings are preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Sawing Equipment: Set up and operate various saw applications (such as cold saws, miter saws, or band saws) to cut materials to specified dimensions, ensuring proper alignment, feed rates, and cutting angles.
- Read Blueprints and Specifications: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine the correct measurements, cutting requirements, and material needs.
- Material Handling: Load and unload materials with PIT onto the sawing machines, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts to verify that cuts meet dimensional and quality standards. Perform regular checks for accuracy, smoothness, and finish.
- Machine Maintenance: Maintain saws and related equipment by performing routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure optimal operation.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring the work area is safe and organized. Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain Production Efficiency: Work in a fast-paced environment, meeting production schedules and deadlines while maintaining high standards of precision and quality.
- Collaborate with Team: Communicate effectively with other team members, including machinists and supervisors, to ensure smooth operations and resolve any issues that may arise during the production process.
- MRP usage: Utilize Business Central daily when moving material from saw area to downstream areas ensuring proper transactions are complete
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience as a saw operator, machine operator, or in a similar manufacturing role is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of operating machining equipment, particularly for aluminum materials.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production orders.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate cutting and high-quality output.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, stand for long periods, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
- Flexibility: Ability to flex from one machining task to another based on department requirements related to customer demand
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, especially in a machine shop environment.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Work Environment:
- The role is primarily based in a manufacturing or machine shop environment with exposure to mechanical equipment and varying temperatures.
- Safety gear such as gloves, goggles, ear protection, and steel-toed boots are required.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged standing, walking, and repetitive motion.
- Occasional lifting of materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and machinery during normal work operations.
