FACILITY CUSTODIAN
DEFINITION:
Plan, schedule, and perform routing cleaning and maintenance work in assigned rooms, buildings, office spaces, and areas adjacent to the school; perform minor repairs of structures, furniture, and related facilities for the efficient operation of the school; perform other related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Maintains buildings, facilities, and adjacent areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and polishes floors
- Vacuums rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas
- Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets and urinals
- Fills dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items
- Cleans mirrors, tile, walls, doors, windows, desks and office furniture
- Empties, cleans, and relines various trash containers
- Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning and polishing machines, scrubbers, pressure washers, etc.
- Picks up paper and other debris from floors, lawns, parking lots, walkways and areas adjacent to site facilities
- Sets up rooms, chairs, tables and equipment for meetings, dances and other special events
- Removes dirt and spider webs from building exteriors
- Moves furniture, file cabinets and boxes, as assigned
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards
- Performs emergency clean-up resulting from breakage, vandalism, spills, clogged drains or illness
- Scrapes and removes gum from floors and surfaces
- Locks and unlocks doors and gates, turns lights on and off, and sets alarms to ensure security of buildings and related areas
- Uses high pressure washer to remove graffiti and to clean surfaces
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance to assigned cleaning equipment such as changing bags and filters on vacuum, etc.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items to properly maintain facilities
- Maintains buildings, performing minor and maintenance activities such as repairing furniture, unclogging drains, replacing light bulbs, etc.
- Assists other employees in large or more difficult projects
- Picks up and delivers equipment, supplies, mail, packages and furniture for the purpose of distributing materials to appropriate parties
- Submits work orders or notifies Lead Facilities Custodian when major repairs are needed
- Raises and lowers flags
- Performs minor and routine painting and repair during school breaks
- May drive a district vehicle to conduct work
- May provide security to campus during evening hours, reporting or confronting individuals who are on campus without authorization
- Communicates with staff, students, parents and the public using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns
- Observes established health and safety regulations
- Performs related duties as assigned within the scope and skill level of this classification

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
- High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent
- One year experience in custodial or related work
- Criminal justice fingerprint clearance
