What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Student Support Monitor position at Dorchester County Public Schools?
Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Substitute Student Support Monitors for the remainder of the 2024 - 2025 school year.
DUTIES:
- Monitors activities that may interfere with a safe and positive school climate (this may include, but is not limited to; student conflicts, staff-student conflicts, rumors / misinformation, specific locations or “trouble spots” on school property, potentially volatile or dangerous situations).
- Monitor the Weapons Detection System (Secondary).
- Provides regular and accurate feedback to administrative staff or Director of Student Services regarding activities that may interfere with a safe school environment.
- Assists administrative staff in crisis intervention/emergency response activities; use of “911” radio for life threatening situations in remote areas of the school and assistance in restoring order during altercations (Ed. Article Sec. 7-306).
- Assists school counselors and/or administration with conflict resolution/mediation activities.
- Assists with school-based parent involvement activities.
- Assists the Student Services Office in communicating school concerns to parents and establishing parent rapport.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required.
- Post-secondary education preferred with the appropriate ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form.
- Successful experience working with secondary school-age youth, preferably in an education environment.
- Able to successfully complete appropriate TACT 2 and CPR training.
- Valid Maryland driver’s license with acceptable driving records.
- Trained in Weapons Detection Systems (Secondary).
- Preferred prior law enforcement training with regards to de-escalation techniques and appropriate intervention approaches.
