THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED IN ST. GEORGE WITH SOME FLEXING TO SUMMERVILLE.
The purpose of the class is to perform a variety of advanced and complex clerical work in the preparation and maintenance of department records; to perform a variety of clerical tasks as assigned; and to provide professional and courteous customer service at all times. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences; work is reviewed periodically by supervisor.
Duties
- Assists in the preparation, processing, copying, indexing, filing, transmitting and/or maintaining of various departmental documents.
- Assists with entering assessment for vehicle renewals and watercraft files. Adds data to the system, calculates and runs reports.
- Accepts Business Personal Property tax returns; verifies, assesses, and enters information into system; and files business property tax returns.
- Operates a personal computer and appropriate software packages or its equivalent pertaining to departmental activities.
- Provides customer service; assist customers via the counter, phone, or email; responds to inquiries regarding high milage, Kelley Blue Book appraisals and other questions or concerns taxpayers may have.
- Audits and ensures the security and confidentiality of files as appropriate.
- Examines documents created by other administrative support for accuracy as assigned.
- Resolves moderately complex issues regarding departmental operations and de-escalating billing concerns/issues.
- Performs general administrative/clerical work as required including, but not limited to, preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, coping and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc..
- May attend and represent the organization at internal and external meeting.
- Assists co-workers with clerical duties as necessary.
- Types letters, memos and other correspondence for the appropriate office or department.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in accounting, bookkeeping, secretarial science, or a closely related field.
Requires at least five (5) years of related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and understanding of specific department policies, procedures and of other departments' functions to perform duties.
- Skill in handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones, or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner.
- Skill in performing skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems.
- Skill in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; and/or calculating ratios, rates and percents.
- Skill in reading simple sentences, instructions, or work orders; writing simple sentences; completing simple job forms; and employing simple sentences using basic grammar.
- Ability to do clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices, but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices.
- Ability to compute or perform arithmetic operations using data or information.
- Ability to serve others such as customers, attend to their requests and exchange information with them.
- Ability to perform duties requiring normal attention for accurate results.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested.
