Description
The purpose of the class is to perform a variety of skilled tasks; to maintain, repair and overhaul mechanical and electrical systems at pump stations; and to perform other skilled and semi-skilled work as required. This class works under general supervision to perform a variety of skilled tasks.
Duties
- Performs preventive and predictive maintenance; checks pumps; checks floats; checks stations; checks wells to make sure that there isn't grease or rags in the wells; and identifies equipment deficiencies and performs diagnostic testing.
- Performs general maintenance on grounds and structures; lubricates equipment; repairs and installs piping and pumps.
- After pumps are pulled out and something mechanical is wrong with the pump, hooks-up a bypass pump to ensure there are two pumps in the well at all times.
- Operates crane trucks or overhead cranes for pump removal and installation, generators during power failures; assists in vactor truck operations, mechanical measuring instruments such as torque wrenches, tachometers, dial indicators, micrometer, pressure and vacuum gauges, etc.
- Operates pumpstations; cleans equipment; and ensures proper operation.
- Records the hours on meters for the pumps.
- Follows lockout tag out operations.
- Performs after-hour duty, including emergency response and troubleshooting within 6 months of hire as assigned.
- Enters and exits manholes, pumpstation wet wells and other confined spaces to perform inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Makes routine electrical repairs when necessary; refers advanced work to electricians.
- Cleans floats; cleans stations.
- Is subject to 24-hour on-call status as assigned; may be required to work during emergency conditions as assigned.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least one (1) year of related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
