JOB TITLE: Print Shop Manager
DEPARTMENT: Print & Mail Center
REPORTS TO: Director of Purchasing and Campus Support Services
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Efficiently operate and professional manage the software and equipment for digital print production and bindery services supplied by the university and ensure quality and timely delivery of printed materials and other projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure all printing and binding equipment is properly maintained and upgraded as necessary.
- Oversee the Print Shop Operator and assist with the operation of the high-speed digital production printers, maintaining suitable operating functions with assistance from remote technical advisors.
- Oversee fleet management for supplies, repairs, inventory, service contracts, and communications.
- Provide oversight and assistance for the production of printed materials from a variety of digital sources - electronic mail, hardcopy original, and web-based file transfers.
- Troubleshoot and guide processes to determine with the Print Shop Operator if a solution can be managed "in-house" or if outside technicians need to be brought in.
- Provide oversight and assistance for the operation of bindery equipment, including the high-speed folder, papercutter, drill press, booklet stitcher, and punch/coil binder.
- Supervise and coordinate work for all student employees of the Print & Mail Center.
- Oversee and support the safe operational practices with some training and supervision of student assistants.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external customers, answer questions, and gather information needed to effectively complete project requests or pass information to the parties in the department that need it.
- Provide reports as requested for the director and assist as needed with the planning and budgeting process. Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and the ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.
- Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.

- AA or BA degree is preferred, and 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in a print and mail center is ideal, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Knowledge of copiers and binding equipment.
- Knowledge of relevant software, including graphic design software and printing-related software is helpful.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical and operational issues.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and manage print projects effectively with the team.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to motivate, supervise, and mentor printing staff and student employees.
- Attention to detail and being "deadline-oriented" are a must.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to fulfill customer needs.
- Must be able to provide excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards co-workers and customers.
- Good interpersonal and written communication skills are required to be able to communicate with both internal and external customers.
Technical knowldege that is beneficial but not required (will train):
- Comprehensive understadning of various printing technologies, equipment operation, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of pre-press processes (color managment, file prepraration), and post-press processes (binding, finishing).
- Familiarity with different papertypes, inks, and other printing materials.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and processes is beneficial
