JOB TITLE: Student Employment Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Student Employment
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Employment
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Primarily responsible for placing students in on-campus jobs in Oracle. Provides diversified clerical support for the director, including coordinating and advertising both on-campus and off-campus jobs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide reception and information for students, faculty, and staff by managing office traffic, emails, and phone calls.
- Coordinate and assign students to on-campus employment positions using the current Oracle system.
- Assist the Director of Student Employment with advertising on-campus and off-campus jobs.
- Ensure all new hire forms and documents are completed and the required I-9 documents are viewed and documented in the required time. Collaborating closely with the payroll administrator in the Business office to ensure all documents for students (both US and international) are seen and documented.
- Utilize various methods of communication and creative ways to receive and collect required documentation from students desiring employment on campus.
- Review and update the Student Employment Handbook for supervisors and students. Recommend updates to the director and communicate changes as appropriate.
- Create training guidelines for students and supervisors and update them as needed in the Oracle support site.
- Respond to calls for off-campus work and advertising open positions.
- Perform employment verifications as requested.
- Perform other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and the ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.
- Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.

- Coursework in general clerical duties and customer relations with a minimum of 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Basic mathematical skills in calculating verification worksheets.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills, including word processing, internet, e-mail, and other network applications.
- Coordination skills needed for organizing and maintaining records.
- Some administrative skills needed for explaining work programs and in monitoring student working hours.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people.
