POSITION
Duke Farms’ bikeshare rental program offers about 15,000 visitors annually the opportunity to explore the expansive property by bicycle. Reporting to the Event and Engagement Manager, the Seasonal Bikeshare Associate is an integral part of the Event and Engagement team, supporting the daily operations of the bicycle rental service. This customer-focused position involves handling rental transactions, answering questions about bicycling and Duke Farms, and providing suggestions to enhance the visitor experience. The Bikeshare Associate takes the initiative to meet and exceed visitor needs within established guidelines, ensuring a positive and memorable experience.
Seasonal employees are typically hired for no more than nine months, beginning in March and continuing through December 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome, direct and assist visitors with a cheerful, helpful and professional demeanor.
- Process bicycle rental transactions efficiently using a point-of-sale system.
- Provide accurate information, support materials and thoughtful recommendations about Duke Farms’ programs, facilities and mission.
- Assist visitors with general questions about bicycle operation, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Perform minor adjustments to bicycles for rental riders as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of bicycles, helmets and the rental area, coordinating with housekeeping services when necessary.
- Open and close the bike rental area according to operational procedures.
- Manage inventory of bicycles and helmets, ensuring that adequate supplies are available for visitors.
- Provide coverage at the visitors desk and café when needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven customer service experience, demonstrating a welcoming and professional demeanor when assisting visitors and community members.
- Ability to engage positively with visitors and community members, providing information, resolving inquiries and handling unexpected issues efficiently and professionally.
- Excellent communication skills to deliver clear orientation and general information.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of multitasking while maintaining a solution-oriented mindset.
- Willingness and ability to support event execution, which may involve physical tasks such as setting up, moving equipment or extensive site navigation.
- Ability to navigate the 2,700-plus-acre Duke Farms property as well as travel to other locations, both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
- Ability to repeatedly lift bicycles weighing up to 50 pounds to a height of 12 inches.
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, sun exposure and wet weather with potential exposure to environmental factors such as poison ivy, ticks and mosquitoes.
- Available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- A valid driver’s license.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Anticipated hourly rate is $17.
- 15% employer contribution to 401(k).
