Fine Arts Center Technician
Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate setup and technical requirements for all events and rehearsals
- Operate, maintain, and safeguard theatre technical assets and stage facilities.
- Determine technical needs for staging and special effects in advance of
productions. - Design, set up, maintain, and operate all technical equipment for theatre, dance,
music, and other productions. - Assist guest designers and artists with technical requirements.
- Advise production managers on equipment specifications, costs, and usage.
- Supervise the implementation of set and prop designs while communicating with
the Fine Arts Facility Administrator. - Monitor, repair, and replace equipment, including rigging, scene shop tools, and
stage assets within budget constraints. - Perform preventive maintenance and ensure all equipment is operational and
available as needed. - Maintain theatre cleanliness and security while fostering strong relationships with
vendors, staff, and external groups. - Work irregular and extended hours as needed.
- Lift, push, or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools, lift 50 lbs
overhead and unassisted.
Additional Responsibilities (Scene Shop Foreman, Master Rigger, Master
Carpenter):
- Provide hands-on instruction to students in theatre practicum courses, including
safety procedures and technical skills. - Oversee set construction, determining materials, tools, and timelines for production.
- Assist scenic designers and directors in creating high-quality theatre sets and scenery.
- Plan and organize construction projects using sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions.
- Maintain, repair, and rig soft goods, auditorium seating, and special theatrical effects.
- Facilitate transportation of props, costumes, and rental items.
- Working at heights above 20 feet in Personal Protective Equipment
- Knowledgeable in Rigging related math and safe rigging practices.
- Risk assessment for theatrical rigging and set design.
- Overseeing a student Running Crew backstage during theatrical performances.
- Supervising students in the Scene Shop.
- Assisting lighting and sound as needed and capable of operating systems when department heads are unavailable.
- Preferred knowledge of knot work, theatrical painting, theatrical flats, platforms, and wagons, drafting, 3d printing, staging directions, orchestra shell operations, and safe theatrical industry standards.
Campus Support:
- Assist with setup and execution of graduation ceremonies.
- Support performing arts extracurricular activities across campus.
Contract Length: 240 days
Salary: Spartanburg School District Six Salary Schedule
