Full-Time, Teaching-Track Faculty Positions in Thematic Option

Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences
Los Angeles, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/7/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/6/2025

Thematic Option, the general education honors program in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, invites applications for a teaching-track full-time instructor or lecturer position beginning Fall 2025. This is a career position with opportunities for promotion along a teaching track.

The lecturer will teach five courses: two sections of CORE 111 Writing Seminar I in the fall, two sections of CORE 112 Writing Seminar II in the spring, and one section of CORE 200 Liberal Arts Reading Salon in either fall or spring as determined in consultation with program leadership. Small class sizes facilitate a workshop model of instruction, frequent one-on-one and small-group conferencing, and an emphasis on the writing process. All courses are taught in person on campus. In addition to teaching, the lecturer will assist in the coordination of the writing program, mentor graduate writing instructors, and participate in the intellectual life of the department and other units on campus.

Initial appointment is fixed-term with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and review by program faculty and leadership and the college deans. Thematic Option provides opportunities for promotion to the ranks of Assistant Professor (Teaching), Associate Professor (Teaching), and Professor (Teaching) based on demonstrated teaching excellence and service to the program, school, university, and field.

Application Materials:

In addition to a cover letter, applicants must submit a curriculum vitae and a teaching statement (attach all as one PDF document during the application process). Candidates who progress to the second round of review will be asked to submit recent teaching evaluations, course syllabi with writing assignments, and three letters of recommendation from referees who can speak to teaching abilities.
