Environment, Health & Safety Specialist (EHS) will play a critical role in driving EHS excellence and fostering a safety-focused first organization culture within Petmate. Overall responsibility will be developing and maintaining process and efficient systems to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations. Work closely with Operations Leader to enhance all aspects of EHS performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement companywide consistent EHS process and technology that is data driven and results focused. Partner with site leaders on specific measures and targets that drive a safety culture.
- Conduct worksite assessments to identify and evaluate safety and health risk and compliance exposure. Develop and implement strategies to reduce or eliminate these risks and exposures.
- Drives administrative controls and engineering controls to eliminate hazards in the facility to create a zero-incident workplace.
- Plans and delivers training programs for management and employees on relevant accident prevention and compliance programs. Conducts new employee orientation in connection with company goals and requirements.
- Coordinates facility safety and health committee\subcommittees and facilitates the continuous improvement process through behavior-based safety, ergonomics, forklift, and shift safety teams.
- Conducts analysis of accidents and health hazards to be used to target specific prevention strategies. Prepares and maintains required documentation of incidents reports, statistical analysis for use as required by company personnel or outside agencies.
- Provide management and hands-on support for operations as required. May require off-shift hours to be worked as necessary.
- Participate or lead internal incident investigations to find continuous improvement opportunities in work practices or work conditions with the use of root cause analysis.
- Lead response team efforts, ensuring all members are trained, equipment ready for use and provide first aid as needed to team members needing medical attention.
- Ensure audits on solid and hazardous waste programs, compliance with regulatory aspects of waste and storm water programs, ensures compliance with air permitting requirements, and coordinates with applicable local, state, and regulatory agencies.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences, health and safety or a related discipline or equivalent credentials/experience.
- 5 years experience in EH&S management or similar field.
- Strong working knowledge of EH&S regulations and injury prevention techniques.
- An in-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards, industrial hygiene, injury and loss prevention techniques is also required. OSHA training certifications desirable.
- A working knowledge of safety data analysis and reporting is strongly preferred.
- Excellent customer services skills, including the ability to develop and deliver presentations.
- Project Management skills to include milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
- Team player with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead teams.
- Strong facilitation and collaboration skills needed in this role.
- Ability to manage several projects at once.
- PC platform computer experience and proficiency with Microsoft suite and software products. Ability to use excel for data analysis and metrics.
- Ability to read, write and develop thorough communications, policies and training content for safety related topics.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, crawl and squat to identify and monitor work areas and equipment. Must be able to see and hear to locate and identify safety hazards, work is done in moderate to noisy environments with intermittent exposure to weather elements.
- Valid driver’s license and clean record. Ability to drive to multiple sites in a day. Some travel to out-of-state warehouse locations (as needed).
