The DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center is seeking an experienced cook to join our team. This position is 100% on-site, no remote work; this role pays $18.00 an hour.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport Convention Center is conveniently situated just south of Miami International Airport off the Dolphin Expressway adjacent to the Blue Lagoon Business District. The hotel features 334 guestrooms, onsite dining, fitness room, outdoor pool, business center, complimentary High-Speed Internet Access, 24,000 square feet of retail space, 20,000 Square feet of Hotel Meeting and Function Space and an Convention Center with 152,000 square feet of meeting, event and exhibit space.
This position will be an hourly position and will report to the Kitchen Supervisor & Executive Chef.
The cook is responsible for accurately and efficiently cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other hot food products as well as preparing and portion food products prior to cooking. Also perform other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot menu item plates.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook menu items for banquets and special events, ensuring quality and presentation meet our high standards.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to plan and execute menus for various events, accommodating dietary restrictions as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist in inventory management, including ordering and stocking supplies as necessary.
- Utilize proper knife skills for food preparation, ensuring efficiency and safety during meal prep.
- Participate in training new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and kitchen protocols.
- Work effectively under pressure during busy service periods while maintaining attention to detail.
Qualifications/ Skills:
- Previous experience as a cook in a restaurant or catering environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with dietary aide responsibilities and fine dining standards is a plus.
- Strong skills in food preparation, including knowledge of various cooking techniques and equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated.
- Excellent time management skills to ensure timely meal service during events.
- Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to remain stationary at assigned post for extended periods of time.
- Work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish.
