BASIC PURPOSE
The barback plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth bar service. They are responsible for providing supplies and providing the bartender with items upon request that help assure exceptional guest service. They restock liquors, refill garnishes, polish glasses, stock napkins, haul kegs and assist with orders on the bar POS.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Replenish bar inventory and supplies, including alcohol, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and other necessary items. Ensure all items are organized and easily accessible.
- Maintain a clean and organized bar area by cleaning and sanitizing countertops, equipment, and glassware. Dispose of trash and ensure all bar areas are tidy.
- Assist bartenders in preparing and serving beverages, including fetching supplies, cutting garnishes, and restocking as needed. Aid in setting up and breaking down the bar area before and after shifts.
- Provide friendly and efficient service to guests, addressing any inquiries or requests promptly and courteously. Maintain a professional demeaner and appearance at all times.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of beverages and supplies. Ensure compliance with hotel policies and procedures.
- Ensure that tables are cleared and reset efficiently and promptly after guests depart from the bar.
- Perform any related duties as requested by bartender/supervisor/manager.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience in a bar, restaurant, hospitality setting, or similar role.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation guidelines. Hold a current Food Handler Card.
- Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
- A team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Must be at least 18 years old (or as required by state law).
- Practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations, complete company-wide safety training and any additional job specific safety training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to transport up to 30 lbs. through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift.
- Lifting thirty (30) pounds maximum.
- Constant standing & walking required.
- Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and smiling.
