Description
The Dougherty County Tax & Tag Department is hiring for a Senior Accounting Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to oversee the daily financial and operational activities of the department, ensuring adherence to established office procedures related to the collection of property taxes, motor vehicle fees, and financial transactions. Additionally, the role provides essential support to the Tax Director and division supervisors by assisting with operational oversight, financial reporting, and compliance tasks.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential Tasks
- Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Inspects completed assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Monitors the daily operation of the financial and accounting functions, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash receipting and report preparations.
- Reconciles all bank accounts maintained by the property tax division and motor vehicle division to the department financial system and general ledger.
- Ensures compliance with State, Federal and local county policies and procedures and governmental generally accepted accounting practices.
- Serves as liaison between vendors, citizens, employees, to resolve issues, concerns and ensure compliance with sound accounting principles
- Serves as facilitator within the Tax and Tag department to trouble-shoot problems.
- Assist with the motor vehicle tag and title applications and tax collections including heavy duty, timber, real property, personal property, and mobile homes.
- Assists the property tax division with the delinquent tax collection and the sale of real property and personal property.
- Performs related work as assigned.
