Dougherty County Public Library has a vacancy for a Library Assistant. Employees in this position are responsible for staffing the Circulation desk and performing other duties that contribute to the efficient operation of the library.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Issues library cards. Checks books and materials out and in. Answers the telephone; provides information and assistance; collects fines and fees; obtains books and materials from other libraries to fill patron requests. Ensures equipment used by the public is in good working order; demonstrates proper use of such equipment; performs routine maintenance, e.g. loading paper and changing toner cartridges. Sorts and returns materials to the stacks, re-shelves, and files. Notifies patrons of overdue or reserved library materials; processes and covers new materials. Strives to resolve patron problems and concerns relating to late fees or unreturned materials. Checks in magazines, newspapers and other mail, routing it to the appropriate locations. Assist with special events.
