What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truck Driver position at Dougherty County?
The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for Truck Driver. The purpose of this position is the safe and efficient operation of medium trucks to heavy equipment for transporting materials to and from work sites.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences
• Drives trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks; operates chain saws.
• Transports construction and demolition materials such as stone, gravel, sand, and limbs to and from work sites.
• Maintains log of work performed; contents of delivery, destination of loads, and amount of time used.
• Performs pre-trip vehicle inspection as preventable maintenance; compiles equipment order to report malfunctions.
• Assists in loading materials; re-directs traffic as needed.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
• Follows safety standards developed by the County.
• Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of specialized training in truck driving.
• One (1) year of experience in the operation of vehicles and equipment such as trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, flatbed trucks and dump trucks or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
• Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
o Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
o Traffic; Moving machinery.
Special Certifications And Licenses:
• Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
