As a certified health department, the Douglas County Health Department is responsible for several programs as well as many other public health services. Programs are grouped into divisions relating to either nursing, environmental health or health education. All programs have an educational component. The goal of this department is to increase the awareness and number of persons reached in this educational process.
In 2008, The Douglas County Health Department opened the doors to its own Dental and Health Clinic. The clinic and the addition of on-site lab processing capabilities has allowed the health department to better serve the community.

Overview
The Public Health Nurse plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the health of communities. This position involves working collaboratively with individuals, families, and groups to assess health needs, develop care plans, and implement public health initiatives. The Public Health Nurse will utilize their clinical skills and knowledge of community resources to educate and empower populations, particularly those facing challenges such as disabilities, addiction, or socioeconomic barriers.

- Education related to programs and services.
- Asist clients from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Qualifications
- Current nursing license in the state of practice.
- Experience in public health nursing or maternal health and child programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicare services and eligibility requirements is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate diverse populations effectively.
- Regular, predictable attendance.
- Commitment to promoting health equity and addressing social determinants of health.
