The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office is hiring for a Domestic Violence Assistant Attorney I position. This position will be responsible for reviewing, charging, and prosecuting cases related to domestic violence, including but not limited to intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual assault. This position is funded through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and the Assistant Attorney will work collaboratively with law enforcement, victim advocates, community organizations, and other partners to ensure a coordinated response to domestic violence. The position requires a victim-centered approach, an understanding of trauma-informed care, and a commitment to seeking justice while supporting and protecting survivors.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to the Kansas state bar.
- Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence dynamics, the impact of trauma, and commitment to victim-centered prosecution OR a willingness to learn.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and legal writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) required; one to five years of related experience and/or training.
- Experience in the prosecution of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault cases.
- Knowledge of state and federal domestic violence laws, including VAWA.
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and familiarity with community-based victim advocacy services.
