JOB TITLE: Parks Maintenance
DEPT: Public Works
STATUS: Full-Time; 40 hrs/week
STARTING SALARY: The current starting salary for this position is $51,084.80 annually ($24.56 hourly). Receive anniversary step increases for earning potential of $65,312.00 annually ($31.40 hourly). In addition, receive annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

6 -10 years - 15 working days.
11 - 15 years - 20 working days.
16 - 20 years - 25 working days.
Over 20 years - 30 working days.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
To provide clean, safe, and well-maintained public spaces for the enjoyment of Douglas County residents and visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Parkland maintenance including physical labor, use of vehicles, hand tools, equipment, and powered machinery related to landscaping.
- Perform general construction, plumbing, landscaping, electrical, and concrete work to maintain park facilities, bathroom facilities, indoor rental facility, outdoor picnic shelters, swimming beaches, bathhouses, mowed hiking/running trails, which turn into snow-groomed cross-country ski trails, sledding hills, and winter snow removal from parking lots and park roads.
- Maintain county building yards as requested including fertilization, chemical application, aeration, landscaping, and mowing. Remove snow from sidewalks of Public Works facilities.
- Mow highway right-of-way near bridges, underpasses, and retaining walls.
- Patch pavement, brush, and mow along Central Lakes Trail.
- Assist Highway Maintenance Division as backup snow plow driver and general summer labor (roadway patching, tree removal from right-of-way, painting).
- Preventive Maintenance and General repair work on 3 mowers, a tractor, and a ski groomer.
- Parks research and job-related training.
- Park planning assistance.
- Tax forfeited assistance.
- Complies with all rules and policies in order to maintain a safe work environment.
- Reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties, as assigned or apparent.

The incumbent may encounter not public data in the course of these duties. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished, incumbent must properly store the not public data according to the provisions Ch. 13.
If a new work assignment requires access to not public data, the incumbent is permitted to access not public data for the work assignment purposes only. Any access to not public data must be strictly limited to the data necessary to complete the work assignment and after the assignment is completed, the employee's work assignment no longer requires access.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT HIRE:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- MN DNR Certified Tree Inspector.
- NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
- MN Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & QUALITIES AT HIRE:
- Ability to operate and trailer a backhoe, skid loader, and lawn mower
- Knowledge of building trades (carpentry, cement, welding, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
- Knowledge of medium and heavy equipment operation and service.
- Knowledge of standard custodial and grounds maintenance methods (turf management, landscaping).
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of routine motor vehicle service practices.
- Understanding of the hazard potential of various materials and willingness to use proper safety measures.
- Ability to participate in facility and workplace safety inspections.
- Ability to communicate with the general public daily.
