COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
0-3% Merit upon successful completion of the probationary period and 0-3% annual merit increases thereafter based upon evaluation score.

Responsible for transporting public, senior citizens, and residents with disabilities to and from various locations within the County; may perform special assistance for individuals with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in a clean and in operable condition; completes inspection paperwork/checklist; reports the need for service or repair; ensures that vehicles are scheduled for routine maintenance as required.
  • Drives vehicle to and from various locations, following a pre-established schedule or on an on-call basis.
  • Stops vehicle at various locations to pick-up and let off passengers; assists passengers with disabilities in embarking and disembarking and may load and unload luggage, packages and other items as required.
  • Answers questions and provides information to passengers as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status.
  • Maintains driver log; if required, lists client name, address and other information for each trip.
  • Transports meals to the home bound, assuring that the meal is safely delivered; may pick up empty trays from prior delivery; loads trays into carrying devices and onto the van for home bound delivery; checks temperature of hot meals, reports findings on a daily basis to the designated record keeper; reports unusual circumstances (no one home - no response at the door) to Supervisor.
  • Washes and cleans the interior of the vehicle; fuels the vehicle.
  • May drive a handicapped access vehicle to transport wheelchair and other elderly and handicapped clients; assists individuals requiring wheelchair assistance in the entry and exit from the vehicle.
  • Assists individuals with physical needs in the entry and exit of the vehicle.
  • Uses a radio to communicate and receive information in the vehicle.
  • Participates in in-service training to update skills and learn techniques for dealing with various clients.
  • Perform all duties in accordance to Federal Transportation Administration as it relates to public transit.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma/GED; AND one (1) year of experience in transportation of passengers in a bus or van; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Laws, rules and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada.
  • Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
  • County geography.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including records management.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
Skill in:
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Understanding and following oral and written directions.
  • Driving a vehicle skillfully and safely.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Dealing effectively with disabled individuals and others needing special assistance.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • First Aid, AED, Effects and Consequences of Prohibited Drug Use and CPR certification within three (3) months of date of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Mobility to work in a transportation setting and operate a motor vehicle; strength and agility to lift materials weighing up to 20 pounds; stamina to sit for extended periods of time; vision to read printed materials; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Work is subject to performance under exposure to extensive travel, bodily fluids, fumes, gases, noise and chemicals.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background/screening.
  • Incumbents subject to ongoing drug and/or alcohol testing in accordance with NDOT and FTA Part 40 regulations.
  • Douglas County participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each applicant's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. All candidates who are offered employment must complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 along with the required proof of their right to work in the United States and proof of their identity prior to starting employment. Retirement – Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada
Douglas County contributes 33.50% of an eligible Regular Member and 50% of an eligible Police and Fire Member's salary for retirement. Deferred Compensation Plans – Employees can participate in the VOYA Retirement Plans, which is funded by the employee.

Paid Leave
12 paid holidays per year. Generous paid leave accrual's including 96 hours sick annually, begin accruing 120 hours annual leave each year. Health Insurance
The County has rich benefits plans to choose from: Preferred Provider (PPO) and Health Savings Account (HSA) with supplemental benefits to include: prescription plan, dental plan, vision, life insurance opportunities, cancer insurance, and disability insurance. Benefit eligibility is the 1st of the month following 30-day waiting period or 60 days, depending on the position. Compensation
Douglas County's compensation system is based on Pay for Performance wherein employees are eligible for annual performance evaluations. The current structure consists of merit increases up to 3% on a qualifying employee's anniversary and Cost of Living Adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index during the first pay period of each fiscal year. The COLA will be up to 5% depending on the CPI each year. Additionally, eligible employees can be recognized for outstanding performance, above and beyond the call of duty, and receive additional compensation through the Recognition of Excellence Program.
