DESCRIPTION

Responsible for performing professional-level duties related to the installation, administration, and support of Technology Services Department (TSD) servers, applications, network infrastructure, and database systems.

  • DESCRIPTION

    Performs difficult work providing professional management of network data, voice, infrastructure and related security operations. Designs, implements, and maintains systems ensures resources are maintained with integrity and efficiency; monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and safeguards against vulnerabilities.

    Collaborates with cross-functional teams in developing and enforcing policies and procedures to enhance overall system security and support organizational goals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plans, develops, maintains, and administers network infrastructures and systems; plans, determines, and implements network hardware / software configurations including wireless, switches, routers, and cabling.
  • Diagnoses and resolves connectivity issues, network outages and performance problems. Conducts root-cause analysis and deploys necessary fixes.
  • Manages, configures, and monitors the organization's cybersecurity systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection, and secure network gateways, to safeguard sensitive data and assets from internal and external threats.
  • Ensure data assets are available for use by applications and business clients, recoverable in the advent of system failures and secure from a possible breach.
  • Plans and executes network upgrades, patches, and regular maintenance to ensure the infrastructure is up-to-date and secure from potential vulnerabilities.
  • Pull and terminate network cables, punch cables into patch panels, ensuring proper alignment and strong connections. Test installations with cable testers to verify performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues using diagnostic tools.
  • Implements and enforces security policies and procedures, manages access controls and conducts security audits.
  • Install, program, manage security systems such as network connected cameras, alarms, intercoms and door access controls.
  • Manages user access and permissions, ensures the proper configuration of wireless access points, VLANs, subnets and network policies to control and manage network access effectively.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network topology, IP address schemes, device configurations, and changes to the network infrastructure to support troubleshooting, audits and future upgrades
  • Assists management with technology planning, evaluates new technology. Assists in acquisition and recommends system modifications for improvement.
  • Conducts all work in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, customer requirements, compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in information technology, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved strategic planning, project management, quality assurance, computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and / or applications analysis and development. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Douglas County contributes 33.50% of an eligible Regular Member and 50% of an eligible Police and Fire Member's salary for retirement. Deferred Compensation Plans - Employees can participate in the VOYA Retirement Plans, which is funded by the employee.

    Paid Leave

    12 paid holidays per year. Generous paid leave accrual's including 96 hours sick annually, begin accruing 120 hours annual leave each year. Administrative leave of 5 days or 3 days annually applies to some positions. Please refer to our leave policies or relevant labor agreement

    The County has rich benefits plans to choose from : Preferred Provider (PPO) and Health Savings Account (HSA) with supplemental benefits to include : prescription plan, dental plan, vision, life insurance opportunities, cancer insurance, and disability insurance. Benefit eligibility is the 1st of the month following 30-day waiting period or 60 days, depending on the position.     Compensation

    Douglas County's compensation system is based on Pay for Performance wherein employees are eligible for annual performance evaluations. The current structure consists of merit increases up to 3% on a qualifying employee's anniversary and Cost of Living Adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index during the first pay period of each fiscal year. The COLA will be up to 5% depending on the CPI each year. Additionally, eligible employees can be recognized for outstanding performance, above and beyond the call of duty, and receive additional compensation through the Recognition of Excellence Program.
