Position Summary:
Douglas County PUD offers Student Trainee positions to college-bound students during the summer break months. Work start and end dates can accommodate student availability and vary depending on college schedules. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and the work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The length of employment for this position may not exceed 5 months. The hourly rate for this position is $17.58.
Essential Functions:
- Perform a variety of landscape maintenance duties including fence building, irrigation repair, and debris hauling.
- Operate side-by-sides, zero-turn mowers, hand tools, and power tools.
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.
- Follow District policies and safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED and be enrolling or enrolled in college or a vocational school.
- A professional work attitude and strong work ethic.
- Basic knowledge and experience in operating hand and power tools.
- Ability to operate mowers.
- Ability to tow trailers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a variety of settings.
- Ability to work independently and develop solutions for problems as they occur.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk long distances on both pavement and uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
- A valid Washington State driver license and proof of acceptable driving record.
Additional Requirements:
- All successful candidates are required to complete a criminal history background screening and a post-offer, pre-employment drug screening that is consistent with federal law regarding marijuana.
