The Fish Counter is a seasonal position, working over six months and is eligible for benefits. Douglas PUD offers

The successful incumbent for this position will be hired at the hourly rate of $26.20. This classification has a wage step

progression up to $28.79 after one full year of employment.

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Seasonal Fish Counter will work under the supervision of the Natural Resources Supervisor or designee to

monitor the fish passage. Fish counting will be performed using video display monitors that record individual fish

passing through the fish ladders at Wells Dam. Hourly and daily totals must be compiled for reporting purposes.

This position is seasonal and expected to last from mid-April through mid-November.

This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is subject to a one-year probationary period.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Use video monitoring equipment to accurately identify various species of migrating fish.
  • Support the District’s mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.
  • Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions

at all times in the workplace.

  • Ensure compliance with all District policies.
  • Adhere to the District’s Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while
  • conducting business on behalf of the District.

    Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this

    position, employees, customers, and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools,

    equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site

    attendance while working independently and with others.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • This job requires a willingness to work irregular hours and independently.
  • Ability to accurately identify and count fish.
  • Ability to accurately enter data.
  • Ability to concentrate on computer screens for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other fish counters and Natural Resources department staff.
  • Must have basic computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook
  • and Excel.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Prior fish counting experience or fish identification education will be given special consideration.

    CERTIFICATIONS :

    A valid driver's license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job

    offer). Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver's license within 30 days of employment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Good hand / eye coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors and see well at mid and near ranges.
  • Ability to sit for up to eight hours per day with intermittent breaks throughout the day.
  • Ability to focus and maintain attention to detail.
