Job Description
The Literacy Specialist's assignment will be based on the early intervening (K-3) programmatic needs of the building and district. All district Literacy Specialists are subject to change schools based on those needs. Provides scientifically evidence based reading and writing interventions to meet the individual needs of students in grades K-3 for students who are below grade level expectations (specific training will be required). Provides leadership, collaborates, effectively communicates, provides K-3 school based professional development, and communicates/collaborates closely with classroom teachers, administration and parents. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.
Master’s Degree in Education, Literacy preferred, Endorsement in elementary reading, or working toward a masters in literacy.

Provide professional development and coaching as directed by school and/or district.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Coordinate, communicate, and /or collaborate student progress and data with classroom teachers, READ contacts, other interventionists, school/district administrators, and parents, related to student programming and progress, as appropriate.
Perform as an integral part of the school and the school community, performing certain duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and supporting certain extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations, participating in department and school meetings, and parent meetings.
Responsible for planning, assessing, progress monitoring and maintaining accurate/complete records of students' progress and development preparing required reports on students and activities.
Responsible for managing student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures, maintaining discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school, and applying appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
Participate in continuous professional development and receive on-going coaching to maintain current scientifically evidence-based practices beyond any initial training. May be required to participate in an initial year-long training in order to plan, prepare and deliver instructional methods aligned with scientifically evidence-based interventions, depending on experience.
Utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities, instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, observe, evaluate, encourage and provide feedback on student's performance and development.
Assess, plan, organize and implement a scientifically, evidence-based literacy intervention within a multi-tiered system that guides and encourages students in grades K-3 to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
